Electrical rewires in Falmouth homes and businesses

Electrical wiring deteriorates over time, particularly in older properties. Outdated wiring may no longer meet modern requirements and can increase the risk of faults, shocks and fires.

We provide domestic, commercial and industrial rewires for houses, flats, extensions, offices, hospitality venues, warehouses and older properties. We assess your existing system and give honest advice on whether a full or partial rewire is needed.

Our rewire services include:

  • Replacement of old electrical wiring
  • New sockets and switches
  • Rewiring lighting circuits
  • Upgrading circuits and the consumer unit
  • Replacement of outdated components
  • Electrical testing, inspection and certification

Signs your property needs a rewire

  • Frequent tripping or blown fuses
  • An old fuse box with rewireable fuses
  • Rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cables
  • Scorch marks, a burning smell or warm sockets and switches
  • Flickering lights
  • Not enough sockets, or sockets mounted in skirting boards

If you’re not sure, an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) will show the condition of your wiring. Our electrical fault finding service can also trace the cause of recurring problems before you commit to a rewire.

Full or partial rewire?

A full rewire replaces all of the cables, sockets, switches, light fittings and usually the consumer unit. A partial rewire focuses on specific circuits or areas, such as a kitchen, an extension or a single floor.

We’ll explain the options clearly so you only pay for the work your property actually needs.

What to expect during a rewire

  1. Survey and quote – we inspect the property and agree the scope of work.
  2. Planning – we agree socket, switch and lighting positions with you.
  3. First fix – new cables are run through walls, floors and ceilings.
  4. Second fix – sockets, switches, fittings and the consumer unit are installed.
  5. Testing and certification – everything is tested and certified to BS 7671.

Rewires are notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations (Approved Document P). As NICEIC approved electricians, we handle the notification and give you the certificates you need. Electrical Safety First also has useful advice on electrical safety at home.

Electrical rewire FAQs

How long does a house rewire take?

A full rewire of a typical three-bedroom house usually takes around one to two weeks, depending on the size, layout and access. Partial rewires can often be completed in a few days. We give you a realistic timescale with your quote.

Can I stay in my home during a rewire?

Often, yes, although there will be dust, noise and periods without power. We talk you through the schedule before work starts so you can plan around it.

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Warning signs include frequent tripping, an old fuse box, flickering lights, warm sockets and very old cable types. As a guide, wiring that is more than 25 years old should be inspected, and an EICR will confirm whether a rewire is needed.

Will I need plastering and decorating after a rewire?

Usually, yes. Cables are run inside walls and under floors, so some chasing of walls and lifting of floorboards is needed. Plastering and redecorating are normally done once the rewire is complete.

Do you rewire commercial properties?

Yes. We rewire offices, shops, hospitality venues, warehouses and other commercial buildings as well as homes.
